Buñuelos
Buñuelos
Buñuelos are a type of fried dough pastry popular in various Latin American countries. Here’s a basic recipe for making buñuelos:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions:
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Cream Butter and Sugar:
- In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add Wet Ingredients:
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture.
- Gradually add the milk, mixing until well combined.
- Combine Mixtures:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour.
- Roll and Cut:
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Roll it out to about 1/8 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into desired shapes (usually circles or squares).
- Heat Oil:
- Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet to 350°F (175°C). There should be enough oil to submerge the buñuelos.
- Fry Buñuelos:
- Carefully place the cut dough pieces into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the buñuelos from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
- Optional:
- Dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar while still warm.
Enjoy your buñuelos with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee!
