Churros with chocolate are a delicious treat! Here’s a simple recipe to make them at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Churro Dough:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once the mixture is boiling, remove it from the heat and stir in the flour until smooth.
- Return the pan to low heat and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1-2 minutes until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from heat and let the dough cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until the dough is smooth and glossy.
- Heat the Oil:
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Shape and Fry the Churros:
- Fit a pastry bag with a large star tip and fill it with the churro dough.
- Pipe strips of dough (about 4-6 inches long) directly into the hot oil, using a knife or scissors to cut them off.
- Fry the churros in batches, turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Coat the Churros:
- While still warm, roll churros in a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon (about 1 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon).
Chocolate Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz (225 g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat the Cream:
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
- Add the Chocolate:
- Remove the pan from the heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for about 1-2 minutes to soften.
- Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Add Sweetener and Vanilla:
- If desired, stir in the granulated sugar and vanilla extract.
- Serve:
- Serve the warm chocolate sauce alongside the churros for dipping.
