Churros with chocolate are a delicious treat! Here’s a simple recipe to make them at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Churro Dough:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
    • Once the mixture is boiling, remove it from the heat and stir in the flour until smooth.
    • Return the pan to low heat and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1-2 minutes until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.
    • Remove from heat and let the dough cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
    • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  2. Heat the Oil:
    • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Shape and Fry the Churros:
    • Fit a pastry bag with a large star tip and fill it with the churro dough.
    • Pipe strips of dough (about 4-6 inches long) directly into the hot oil, using a knife or scissors to cut them off.
    • Fry the churros in batches, turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
    • Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  4. Coat the Churros:
    • While still warm, roll churros in a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon (about 1 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon).

Chocolate Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz (225 g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Cream:
    • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
  2. Add the Chocolate:
    • Remove the pan from the heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for about 1-2 minutes to soften.
    • Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add Sweetener and Vanilla:
    • If desired, stir in the granulated sugar and vanilla extract.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the warm chocolate sauce alongside the churros for dipping.
